Ike and Tina Turner would reach international acclaim with their 1971 album, Workin’ Together, which was the home to “Proud Mary,” an electrifying cover of the 1969 Creedence Clearwater Revival standard. As husband and wife, Ike & Tina Turner headed up one of the most potent live acts on the R&B circuit during the 60s and early 70s. By 1966, with the album River Deep - Mountain High led by the fully orchestrated and bombastic title track, the pair had grown into the more polished sound of the coming era. They had chart topping singles covering a span of 14 years. With their 1962 album, Dynamite, Ike and Tina Turner refined their raucous style, while still continuing to embrace a playfully combative vocal dynamic that, at times, spilled over into real-life hostility. Their last appearance in the charts was 1973. Assembled in the mid-1950s, the twosome and their backing band the Revue became well known for wildly entertaining live shows that consisted of ferocious singing, tantalizing dancing, and unparalleled showmanship.
